Family in the early 60′s
appreciations #1
The sky was dramatic today, especially during sunset.
At one point I was driving up a hill on the 57 freeway and there was different light in each direction. A dark grey cloud with a thick fog lingering low, a pinky-orange sunset that cut a perfect silhouette of the far away skyline, and a blue sky that said it was just a normal day. I tried to catch what the sky looked like behind me but there was a big rig tailgating my view. Anyway, what was weird about the sky was that there was no in between. From where I was, the sky sectioned itself so definitively. It was spectacular to see.

week notes #36
A month late, but better late than never.
So, it’s Saturday afternoon. Today I broke my coffee fast with a Stumptown pour over and I’m still so caffeinated, but also super productive. I’m back ya’ll! I’m listening to Belle & Sebastian’s Late Night Tales and having a booch. This album has been on repeat for the past month and has kept me sane during many midday traffic jams. It’s the perfect combo of peaceful + upbeat + jammy.
Some highlights of the month: Photographed/wrote five different pieces for LW, figured out what the hell I’m going to do for grad school (finally a path I can visualize), and won some cash money on the radio! I feel like my brain has been exhausted + spinning lately, but things are starting to align and life is getting more manageable. Focus on the positives. It helps.
Anyhow, I’m so grateful to have met Caitlin and Christine this month. These two made the long days worth while and I can’t wait to watch them grow!
Caitlin is the sweetest gal ever. It took us 5 minutes to get real with each other and have a heart to heart. Amazing, isn’t it? She was so open and honest with me throughout our time spent and so easily made me feel less alone in my struggles, aka freelance. This multi-talented musician has a lot to offer and so much heart.
Christine is easily one of the most mellow chicks I know. She is calm, kind hearted, generous, and has wonderful taste. Excited that this chick is local so we can continue to collab. Photos + q&a of her comes out on LW Girl Power Issue next week! Stay tuned!
week notes #35
After over a full week of wandering NY, I’m reset. Some quick highlights on the trip:
- Behind all the bored faces on the subway and pushing on the streets, there are some really amazing people and opportunities in New York. I’m going to live there.
- I really love the whole walking city thing.
- As per usual, Printed Matter’s Art Book Fair rocked. I got to chat with Jill Friedman, drown in all the best magazines, and gather inspiration. Yes.
- I admit the pizza is delicious.
- I fully appreciate how many non-Starbucks coffee spots there are in Brooklyn.
- I photographed John for Local Wolves and he is the sweetest guy. I’m so grateful that editorial work guides me to some of the best people. Happy to have a few new friends in the city.
week notes #34
It’s 6:46 a.m. and I’m sipping on coffee, listening to NPR, and enjoying a work free day aka no orders have come my way. Projects sketches, mood boards, and magazine reads will occupy my paid hours, and at home I’ll be packing for my quick trip to NYC.
This past week I feel like I’ve aged ten years with my indulgence in spin class, Real Simple magazine ( which actually has really good content and is well written), and family drama television shows. I’ve even attended a meeting on 401K yesterday… jeez. I feel like a bona fide American suburban woman.
Weird.
